BSD For Linux Users

2004.01.18  ·  Linux  ·  0 Comments

Great article. I'm not going to do the old switcharunie, but I'm going to set up a BSD box soon. Not so much because of this article [but the article was very interesting and relevant], but more because I dig hacking OSes and finding out the differences [pro/cons] between them.

The 2 Things In Life At The Moment

Needless to say, I've been doing a lot of snowboarding lately. That, combined with an equal amount of hard work has left little time for posting on my blog. But I'm still keen to update and will work a daily post back into my routine soon enough.

Not a bad article. I like the no-frills, obviously honest writing style.

Depenguinator

Concerned about this whole SCO thing? Worried that the crazy american court system can be bought off and will allow SCO to charge for Linux?

I'm not [yet], but just in case, here's the Depenguinator...aka FreeBSD remote install. You can switch for Linux to BSD via ssh.

Dave And Dina

2004.01.01  ·  Linux  ·  0 Comments

The Dave and Dina Project aims to make a all-in-one media box, including; - watching DVD, MPEG's, TV, ... on your TV screen
- record from TV, video, ..., both attended and unattended
- timeshift TV
- serve as an answering machine
- grab from CD or audio/in
- play CD's, MP3's, ogg's, ...
- answer the phone
- be remote-controlled, voice-controlled, web-controlled...
- integrate with home automation technology
- talk back to you
- have multiple personalities

Sounds cool. Might be worth dedicating a box to this, but I'll wait until feedback from the 1st release is in.
